The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Anger About Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Sizing System Changes
Earlier, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she stated.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, from Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
